DPI Calculator

Metadata Pro subscription required for this feature.

Instructions

1 - Choose an Image

You can import a photo to the Metadata app from your Photo Library or from iCloud Drive. You can also import an image using drag and drop on the iPad.

The photos that you open in the Metadata app stay on device and are not saved or uploaded to the cloud by the Metadata app. All data shown in the app is processed on device, including the DPI Calculator feature.

2 - Navigate to the DPI Calculator Data Card

Once you choose a photo, the app will automatically calculate the size and resolution of the image using the DPI Calculator feature. To view the results, swipe horizontally from right to left (or scroll vertically if using the overlay view mode on iPad or Mac), until you see the 'DPI Calculator' card.

If you do not have an active Metadata Pro subscription, you will see the In-App Purchase card before you can view the DPI Calculator card.

3 - View Print Size

The DPI Calculator will automatically calculate and display the maximum size the image can be printed at using the image pixel width, height and DPI. This will be shown as a width and height value in inches. You can use the toggle to switch between showing the maximum print size in inches or centimeters.

When viewing in 'Print Size' mode, you can edit the image pixel width, height and DPI values to see the size that the image can be printed at using a number of different values.
(e.g. if you would like to print at '300 DPI', then set the DPI field to '300' to see the maximum print size)

4 - View Required Image/DPI Size

The DPI Calculator will also allow you to calculate the required image pixel and DPI size to print at the size that you specify. Toggle to the 'DPI Size' mode at the top of the card, then enter your required print width and height in inches or centimeters, enter your required print DPI and the calculator will show you the required size of your digital image in pixels.

5 - Reset the DPI Calculator

After making your changes and entering custom values in to the DPI Calculator, you can reset to the default values for the imported image by pressing the reset button in the top right corner of the 'DPI Calculator' card.
